Philadelphia Scores Twice in Second, Twice in Third to Complete Comeback Win at Xfinity Mobile Arena

The Philadelphia Flyers (30-23-11) erased an early deficit with four unanswered goals to defeat the Washington Capitals (32-27-7) by a score of 4-1 on Wednesday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

Ryan Leonard gave Washington a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 9:51 of the first period. But Philadelphia responded with two goals in the second period from Travis Konecny and Trevor Zegras, then added tallies from Jamie Drysdale and Owen Tippett in the third to pull away in front of 19,053 fans.

Samuel Ersson stopped 22 of 23 shots (.957 SV%) for his 22nd win of the season. The Flyers dominated possession, winning 55.4% of faceoffs and outshooting the Capitals 23-22.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Period:

Ryan Leonard opened the scoring on the power play at 9:51, converting assists from Alex Ovechkin and Pierre-Luc Dubois to give Washington a 1-0 lead. Philadelphia generated seven shots but couldn’t beat Logan Thompson in the opening frame.

Second Period:

Travis Konecny tied the game 1-1 at 4:23, finishing off assists from Travis Sanheim and Alex Bump. Trevor Zegras gave Philadelphia the lead at 12:13, banking home his 22nd goal with helpers from Owen Tippett and Carl Grundstrom to make it 2-1 through 40 minutes.

Third Period:

Jamie Drysdale extended the Flyers’ lead to 3-1 at 7:17 with his seventh goal, assisted by Noah Cates and Cam York. Owen Tippett capped the scoring with an empty-net goal at 18:57, assisted by Christian Dvorak and Noah Cates, to seal the 4-1 victory.

Samuel Ersson earned the win with 22 saves on 23 shots (.957 SV%) for Philadelphia, recording his 22nd win of the season.

Logan Thompson took the loss for Washington, allowing 3 goals on 18 shots (.833 SV%) before being pulled for the extra attacker late in the third.
