The relatively new band Dirty Honey has a sound that matches the greats. With vocals that match Axl Rose or Brian Johnson and some hints of Led Zeppelin in the mix, any fan of Rock and Roll will be hard-pressed to not enjoy Dirty Honey. Their self-titled EP was released last year and is available on all music platforms for all Rock fans.
Opening the album is “When I’m Gone.” It’s got a great energy to it. It’s the perfect song to listen to when you’re sick of your day and ready to leave. I love the opening riff, joined by the hard cymbals giving the song a great rhythm. The AC/DC-esque vocals singing “Been down and out and on my knees, been working so hard to fill my needs,” lends anyone in the working class an anthem. The melodic switch in the pre-chorus and chorus gives it that memorable hook that leaves you singing along instantly and gives you that great job-quitting fantasy of telling your boss “what I wanted to say, is don’t miss me when I’m gone.”
“Rolling 7’s” has a more bluesy vibe in the intro. It picks up in speed and energy by the chorus. They just released their music video this fall. Check it out here: https://youtu.be/42rmUlDiQDI
“Heartbreaker” shows Mark LaBelle’s versatile vocal range. I love the mix of his gruff vocals and softer melodic vocals singing to the heartbreaker in his life.
This album is a great addition to any library. It gives a feeling of nostalgia with their classic inspirations obvious in their music, but there’s still a fresh take with their original music. Their album is easy to listen to on repeat. It doesn’t get lost in the background, but it’s not one of those albums where you’re skipping songs.
