Dance Gavin Dance’s Afterburner

Written By: Zaneta Padilla

Dance Gavin Dance just released their ninth full-length album on April 24th of this year. Already, it’s performing well coming in 2nd on the charts of new releases. This album is perfect timing for the summer, as it has a whole party vibe throughout.

“Prisoner” opens the record. They recently released the music video earlier this year. You can watch it here. The music video gives off those summery vibes again with a party scene and palm trees throughout the scene.

“Calentamiento Global” was my favorite with its Spanish flavor. The opening drum intro first reminded me of a drumline, but throughout the song the Spanish lyrics and Santana-like guitar had me shaking my hips like Shakira. And their seamless blend of screaming vocals with the Latin sound made this song so fun and unique.

“Night Sway” and “Say Hi” were more of my flavor with this album, as they’re more of a speed metal song with heavy instrumentation and screaming lyrics. They did mix in the melodic vocals. The speed guitar stuck out to me on these tracks.

This album is a fun mix. Each track stands out completely on its own and is different than any other one on the album. The band really experimented with different styles, but they infused their unique style in each song. I liked how different, yet cohesive, every song is. They don’t just flow into each other, but it’s not an awkward transition.

Their new album is out now on all music platforms. Follow their social media pages for updates on their tour.
