On August 13, the Dank Daze Descend tour set the Dome ablaze in Virginia Beach. With the perfect weather, and the sun slowly sinking into the horizon, this was the quintessential summer night to welcome the easy going hip hop night.
The bill was packed with The Pharcyde, Lupe Fiasco and Atmosphere opening for Cypress Hill. Through clouds of smoke, heavy beats, and chill lyrics the crowd was simply just “vibing” through the night. Rather than a concert, it felt like a night of hanging out with friends…1,500 of them.
Lupe Fiasco emerged with a great energy, priming the audience for the evening. Lupe has a way of commanding the stage with a calm intensity, letting the strength of his verses carry the performance without gimmicks.
Atmosphere set the tone for the night with their signature blend of soulful beats and narrative-driven rhymes. Slug’s conversational delivery felt like storytelling more than performing, pulling the audience into tales of struggle, resilience, and humor. His set created a perfect backdrop for an early-evening Virginia Beach crowd still buzzing with anticipation. What could’ve been just an opener felt like a headliner moment in itself, with fans swaying, nodding, and already shouting lyrics back at the stage.
When Cypress Hill finally took the stage, The Dome was electric. From the opening beat, the crowd was engulfed in thick bass and a thicker haze. B-Real’s delivery cut through the night air, while Sen Dog’s booming growl added weight and grit. Opening with the medley, including I Wanna Get High and Dr. Greenthumb, while lighting up on stage, the venue turned into a weeknight hang in the basement passing the j around.
What stood out most, though, was Cypress Hill’s ability to blend old-school swagger with a timeless showmanship. DJ Lord’s cuts kept transitions razor-sharp, and the group never let the energy dip. Even in their mellower moments they had thousands of fans locked in, nodding, swaying, and chanting in unison. This wasn’t just a performance, but a celebration of hip-hop culture, West Coast identity, and three decades of music that still hits as hard as ever.
