Crobot released their fifth full length album, Feel This earlier this month. Crobot vocalist, Brandon Yeagley says of this album, “Feel This is the record we’ve been wanting to do since we started. We’ve always thought of ourselves as a live act…we were beyond excited about getting in and getting our hands dirty. It involved performing live as a unit and finishing all instruments on a song before moving on to the next. We recorded 16 songs in 21 days, which is a feat in itself.” If you’ve seen Crobot perform live, then you’ll understand what you can expect with their live performance recorded album.
When COVID shut down their robust touring schedule, they took advantage to write this record, and they were able to record and finish the album together in 2021, releasing their Rat Child EP that summer with several high octane album features of Frank Bello from Anthrax, Howard Jones from Light the Torch and formerly Killswitch Engage, and Stix Zadinia from Steel Panther.
Feel This opens up with a banger, “Electrified.” It starts with fast, heavy drums that pumps you up, then there’s the message in the lyrics about fighting and keeping the wolves at bay.
“Set You Free” begins soft and slow. It starts with a beautiful melodic guitar, and Brandon joins in with soft vocals, until the first chorus where he belts out with the beautiful lyrics “what have we done to become so numb? I’ll give you my faith just so you believe. Run through the darkness so you can see. I’ll set you free.” The pace of the song picks up and brings the energy.
“Never Break Me” has a fun energy to it with some funk inspiration in the instrumentals, and the lyrics are so empowering with the repeating message of “you’ll never break me.”
“We never want to make the same album twice, “ says Brandon. “There is something for every Crobot fan out there, as well as newcomers. At the same time, we’re having fun. We want to be taken seriously, but not too seriously.” Crobot has definitely done that with this album. Their lyrics are incredible with this album and the tunes are fun and hyped. “We want you to walk away smiling. If I can make you smile, I’ve done my job,” Brandon closes. They’ve definitely done that with this album.
