It’s been 4 years since Candlebox’s last release, and they just released a new single, “Let Me Down Easy.” This is a collaborative effort with Peter Cornell, brother to the late and great Chris Cornell.
This track will be on the upcoming album, which the release has been postponed to 2021 due to COVID-19 restricting a supporting tour.
With the new single release, a lyric video was also released which can be viewed here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=174&v=7x_1Yq9Dz_U&feature=emb_logo
It has a heavier sound that allows you to get lost in the music, but when you stop and focus on the lyrics, they’re ones we can all relate to. Vocalist Kevin Martin says of the song, “We are all sinners. A’int a saint among us, and you can only hope that when your time comes it’s not a struggle, that maybe you might be lucky enough to be forgiven for your sins and allowed into the gates of heaven because you are aware—that is, if that’s what you believe.”
The lyrics and the imagery of the music video showing snakes and crosses give it that spiritual element that most can relate to. The lyrics are just ambiguous enough that I can take it to mean the singer is asking for forgiveness from a loved one from straying, or the meaning can be spiritual as well. I love that this song really can give a different meaning to every person.
As a Candlebox fan myself, I’m really excited about this release. After listening to it and viewing the music video, I can’t wait to see what else they’re working on. This single is a beautiful collaboration between the two artists that I can hear the inspiration and how it came together so seamlessly.
