Praise for Arctic Monkeys & “The Car”:
“Turner remains one of the great modern lyricists, delivering turns of phrase that are eye-popping in their specificity and wit” – Variety
“It’s a supremely fun record, scattered with images of jet skis, ‘stackable party guests,’ and splatters of body paint… There are traces of lost love, meditations on regret, prolonged analysis of stage and screen, but it’s also just a lot of fun, and crucially, funny.” – Esquire
“The deliciously sinister ‘Sculptures of Anything Goes’ is unlike any song they’ve ever written and would make the perfect soundtrack to a spy thriller, while the swaggering, Bowie-esque ‘Body Paint,’ with its lush strings and retro keyboard riff, could have been plucked straight out of the soundtrack of a 1970s French new wave classic.” – Vogue
“They’ve crafted one of the most compelling catalogs in contemporary music, and Alex Turner has solidified his place as one of this generation’s great songwriters and frontmen.” – Rolling Stone
“an adventurous, heavily orchestrated album filled with enigmatic songs of love, longing, and doubt.” – Pitchfork
“Open the door and step into the epic film reel of the Arctic Monkey’s dreamy journey, “The Car” — it’s quirky, expansive and deeply soulful… a self-assured, cinematic behemoth of a seventh album.” – Associated Press
“Arctic Monkeys’ most self-reflexive album yet.” – The Guardian “with The Car … the evolution to music of increasing sophistication is startling and undeniable” -SPIN
“Turner is at his best on The Car. His vocal range, a patented croon gliding into a captivating falsetto” -FLOOD
“lush, string-heavy and decidedly cinematic ” – Alternative Press
“The Car is a deftly constructed, lavishly produced, smooth runner of an album that undoubtedly reaffirms Turner as one of the great romantic lyricists of his generation” – Under the Radar
“dripping with eye-catching, pearl-string orchestration” -Stereogum
“some of his wittiest and wisest tunes” -UPROXX
