The multi Gold and Platinum, six-time GRAMMY-nominated band Anthrax are currently out touring in support of the bands 40th anniversary. Thursday night the tour made a stop outside the nation’s capital at The Fillmore Silver Spring, playing to a capacity crowd. The line to get in stretched around the block as fans lined up early for one of the biggest metal tours of the summer. Doors opened early and Hatebreed took to the stage at roughly 6:45.
Hatebreed came out of the gate swinging and wasted no time in getting the crowd fired up. Mosh pits broke out and fans began crowd surfing over the barricade as the first notes of “Proven” came across the PA system. Things didn’t let up from there as Jamey Jasta and crew ripped thru a thirteen song set that included tracks like, “This Is Now,” “Destroy Everything,” “Live for This,” and wrapped up with “I Will Be Heard.”
Hatebreed will kick off their own headlining tour on October 27th and will tour thru the end of November when the tour wraps up in San Diego. Fans can purchase Hatebreed’s latest release, Weight of the False Self HERE.

Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society was up next, and to say Zakk put on a guitar clinic would be an understatement. Dressed in his Black Label Society leather vest and kilt Zakk and crew kicked off their roughly ninety minute set with “Funeral Bell.” Black Label Society released their eleventh studio album, Doom Crew Inc. back in November of last year, and the only songs from the new release to make the night’s setlist were, “You Made Me Want to Live,” and “Set You Free.” Drummer Jeff Fabb celebrated his 45th birthday on the 17th, so prior to “In This River” the crew brought out a birthday cake and Zakk lead the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday.” One of the big highlights from the set was Zakk and Dario’s dueling guitar solo during “Fire It Up.” The night wrapped up with “Suicide Messiah” and “Stillborn.”
Black Label Society will kick off their own headlining tour on August 30th, the tour will wrap up a month later in Brazil. Fans can purchase Doom Crew Inc., tickets, and VIP packages for the upcoming tour HERE.

Closing out the night was one quarter of the big four, Anthrax. Formed by Scott Ian and Dan Lilker in Queens, NY back in 1981, the band has released eleven studio albums and have sold over ten million records worldwide making Anthrax one of the most successful thrash metal bands. With such a vast catalog to pull from the guys kept the night’s set to just thirteen songs. Most bands don’t last forty years and for those that do not many can’t say they still sound and perform as well as they did forty years ago. Anthrax can indeed say they sound and perform as good as they ever have in their forty year career. Joey Belladonna’s is still on point and sounding as good as ever, and the energy he and fellow bandmates Scott Ian, Frank Bello, Charlie Benante, and Jon Donais bring to the stage is unmatched by most bands these days. Prior to the band taking the stage, fans were treated to a video celebrating the past forty years with the band, at the conclusion of the video the curtain dropped and Anthrax took to the stage. The set started with “Among the Living,” “Caught in a Mosh,” and “Madhouse” also making the set were fan favorites “I Am the Law,” Public Enemy’s “Bring the Noise,” and closed out with “Indians.”
Anthrax will take their 40th anniversary tour to Europe for October and November. Fans who missed out on the tour can still get tour merch HERE.
