Raven King’s S/T

Raven King's S/T

Raven King is a pretty interesting band. Interesting in the fact that they’ve combined an art rock sound with grunge and made something that sounds like Chris Cornell meets an eclectic sound that can’t be thrown into a genre.

The riffs make it grunge, there’s no question about that. The vocals give it that artsy feel, changing from song to song. Sometimes sounding deep and dark and other times sounding like a fledgling singer just learning the ropes.

Raven King are  AJ Bucci on bass/vocals, Will Boisseau on drums/vocals, and
Gerrit Curti on guitar/ vocals. Together they’ve created a new age in grunge music.

While the first track may seem a bit amateurish as far as the vocal stylings go, don’t let that keep you from listening on. The art sound to this album dissipates a little with smoother lyrics in songs like “Drifting” and “Diminished”. Both of these tracks are deeply rooted in the complete grunge sound.

One of the tracks that stands out the most on this self-titled release, which came out late December, is “Marble”. This song has an interesting marching beat that will surely keep your interest. 4 out of 5 stars, this album will grow on you.
